COFFEE ROAD

A must-see in the area - Discover our 2 options

We will then return to the coffee road for a few more kilometers, before following a wilder path between hills, plains and forests for 10 kilometers which will lead us to Barbacoa.

 

We will be able to continue to discover the local fauna and flora.

And if we are lucky, you might find a  ocean fossil along the way.

 

Picnic break along the way possible if you wish. (Picnic is extra or you can bring your own) ​

We will arrive around 3 p.m. at Barbacoa.

Option 1: Long version

9:00 a.m. - Meeting point: Hoyo cacao district (10 minutes from Las Terrenas towards Sanchez via the loma).

We will follow a small path in the shade of the tropical forest for 4 km before joining “the coffee road”.

 

We will have beautiful viewpoints and you will also be able to admire the oldest tree in Las Terrenas, a thousand-year-old Seiba worthy of the movie Avatar. A wonder of nature. We will also see cocoa and coffee trees all along the way.

We will travel part of the Coffee Road, which is a wide dirt road through the Dominican countryside and its small villages, before arriving at Elena's house. She manufactures and sells local natural products: coffee, honey, cocoa, local alcohol...and she will be happy to let you taste her products and explain how she works.

You want to discover a part of the coffee road and meet Elena, producer of local products....but you don't want to walk 19km, this option is made for you.

We will meet you at 9 a.m. in Hoyo cacao from where we will begin a 5km walk which will take us to Elena's house. Along the way we will see the local flora and the magnificent 2500 year old seiba tree. We will also pass through a small village with colorful houses on the coffee road.

 

Elena will give us a tasting of her local homemade products, then we will see how they are made. ​

 

After this gourmet break, we will take the opposite route to reach Hoyo cocoa again.
